This class will go over getting comfortable at a sewing machine – it’s not as scary as it looks, we promise! – basic stitches and seams. You’ll also learn correct pressing and pinning techniques.

Kits are provided, which is our way of saying everything you need to create a skirt apron (pictured above) will be here waiting for you. Our sewing classroom is stocked with Baby Lock sewing machines, cutting mats, rotary cutters and irons to make this intro course fun and easy.

Why create a skirt apron? We chose this project because the gingham (checkered) fabric gives you good, built-in guidelines to help you sew a straight seam. The skirt apron pattern also uses simple sewing techniques and seams that you’ll be able to use and build on for future projects.

“Crazy About Sewing” Kids Camp

The Crazy About Sewing Kids Camp will feature 5 Different Projects.

  1. Notions Organizer
    • This project teaches several great sewing techniques and offers another way to keep organized by providing storage for essential notions at the sewing machine. Learn the art of appliqué and using trims to embellish the ladybug. Once the organizer is completed, place it under the sewing machine and fill pockets with favorite notions.
  2. Thread Catcher
    • Where do all the thread tails go? Refrain from throwing them on the floor because they can cause problems with the vacuum cleaner. This thread catcher is the solution because it conveniently sits next to the sewing machine and serves as a trash bag for thread tails and small scraps of fabric.
  3. Ladybug Pincushion
    • Pincushions come in all shapes and sizes but this ladybug is particularly cute and will keep the pins close at hand. After this class, imagine the possibilities for additional shapes!
  4. Hanging Organizer
    • Organization is the key to becoming a productive sewer because more time can be spent on sewing as opposed to spending time looking for items. This hanging organizer has nine pleated pockets which expand to store a plethora of essential sewing notions.
  5. Trifold Wallet
    • Transport essential sewing notions to class in this trifold wallet. The first section has two pockets with faux binding. Elastic strips are sewn in the middle section to keep threads and notions in their place. A zippered pocket keeps small items safe and prevents them from falling out.

Cost of Class: $100 – Includes all Supplies for the week

“Cook and Carry” Kids Camp

The Cook and Carry Kids Camp will feature 5 Different Projects.

  1. Lunch Money Coin Purse
    • Whether lunch is packed at home or purchased at school, there’s always a need for a coin purse. The zippered coin purse is the perfect size to carry some extra cash for items needed in the cafeteria.
  2. Quilted Potholder
    • Rule #1 in cooking: safety first. A potholder is a necessity in the kitchen and one that was handmade is all the better! A layer of Insulbrite is layered between two pieces of fabric and is quilted in a crosshatch pattern. These make great gifts for anyone who enjoys spending time in the kitchen.
  3. Appliqued Dish Towel
    • Some of the cutest sewing projects begin with a store bought item and sewing techniques that are added. This project is no exception. Start with cotton dishtowel and a strip of fabric to create a pleated skirt.
  4. Yummy Lunch Bag
    • Why bring lunch in a brown paper bag when it’s so easy to sew up a stylish lunch bag in no time? All that’s needed is a couple of coordinating fabrics, a zipper, web strapping and a parachute clip. Learn sewing techniques such as zipper insertion, topstitching and boxing corners.
  5. Apron
    • Since an apron is an absolute must in the kitchen, it may as well be cute to boot! Fortunately, this one fits the bill. Although it is loaded with techniques, it is easily accomplished since it is completed in sections. This masterpiece created on the sewing machine will lend confidence in the kitchen and make cooking more enjoyable.
